Plans in place for new Lymm Produce Show
Organisers of the second Lymm Produce Show were so pleased with how it went, they are already planning for 2015.
Challengers came forward to battle it out to be best baker, top brewer, and perfect pie maker earlier this month at Oughtrington Community Centre.
Now they have an extra hot challenge planned for next year when the event will be held on September 7. Organiser Jo Yellen explains: "We thought we would have a chilli competition.
"What we haven’t decided is whether to have a chilli tasting competition too. So if you know about chillies and think you can judge them please get in touch. If you enjoyed the show you can start planning your entry for next year. While we do change some of the categories you can bank on us having beans & tomatoes classes. However you can bank on us having ‘wild card’ class."
The theme for this year's show was the the bugs have landed in the orchard with lots of bugs and a bug hotel to amuse the visitors.
This year, competition was so close in the bread category that winners Maxine Smith and Jen Muphy shared the Lymm & District Round Table Bakers Shield as the judge couldn’t choose between two very different breads - a batch and a fig & walnut loaf.
Donald Reid managed to keep his Lymm & District Round Table Brewer Shield for his home brew beer, winning both first and second in that category. And a new pie class was sponsored by Lymm Ladies with Ruth Warren's savoury beetroot, cheese and onion Pie winning.
The children's competitions were also keenly contested, especially in the shortest bean and favourite bake categories.

Warrington Council has signed off plans for a 6,500 sq ft convenience store, on the site of a former petrol station in Rushgreen Road.
The project is being brought forward by Sale-based property development and investment company Brookhouse Group. The occupier of the store is yet to be named.
Development of the store will include parking for 57 cars.
Tom Whitehead, town planning manager at Brookhouse, said: "This is a fantastic result and we now look forward to further progressing the proposal, including confirming the operator.
"As well as bringing this derelict land back into use, the store will offer a number of benefits to the local community. The supportive feedback we received highlighted that many residents are looking forward to the prospect of new jobs and greater choice as well as the chance to carry out more of their food shopping in Lymm instead of surrounding towns."
Earlier this year, nearly 400 people attended a public exhibition on the plans. Responses received during and after the event, indicated that the majority were in favour of the proposal. Planning officers had also recommended that the scheme be approved.
Construction is likely to start later this year with the new store expected to be open in summer 2015. The architect for the store is Cassidy + Ashton.

"My cat went missing 9th September 2014. He's a very old and rickety Havana Brown called Baz, a neutered male. He has wheezy breathing and is very thin. He should be on a special diet. He lives at 6 Whitbarrow Road and his family can be reached on 07894 461931. Any news would be gratefully received. He usually patrolled on the upper part of Whitbarrow Road near the old Fire Station."
