A Doctor from Lymm has been arrested in a police probe on suspicion of possessing and distributing indecent images.
David McMaster, aged 49, is a GP at Quayside Medical Practice in Failsworth, Manchester. He was arrested by police and bailed while the investigation continues. Mr McMaster has also been suspended from working as a GP following the arrest.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Following an investigation a 49-year-old man from Lymm was arrested on suspicion of possessing and distributing indecent images.
"He has since been bailed. Enquiries are continuing."
A spokesman for the General Medical Council said Mr McMaster can longer practise as a GP, while he is under police investigation.
NHS England in Greater Manchester has confirmed it is aware of the arrest. It said it was working with Quayside Medical Practice to ensure services for patients are not affected.
According to the practice website, the experienced doctor has been a GP for 25 years.
Mr McMaster has also held a senior position as a board member of the Clinical Commissioning Group for Oldham. He joined as clinical director of urgent care, although it is believed he no longer acts in the role.
Well thought of in the profession, Mr McMaster was a 'health leader', helping form the strategy of Oldham's health services while on the CCG board.
The Warrington resident was charged with planning services including accident and emergency, ambulance and out of hours care. As a result, the suspect spent time observing in A and E hospital departments. And Mr McMaster was responsible for ensuring local people got the best service.
While a GP in Oldham, he worked alongside medical students to offer support and guidance.
