Former Lymm Pupil Reaches Second Successive Olympic Final

Richard Egington from LymmRichard Egington and the TeamGB men's eight are through to the Olympics final.

They led from start to finish in this morning's repechage, holding off a fierce challenge from Olympic champions Canada as both crews go through to join Germany and USA in Wednesday's final.

Former Lymm High School pupil Egington, who started his career with Warrington Rowing Club and whose family home is in High Legh, now has a great chance to at least match the silver medal won in the eight in Beijing four years ago.

Richard Egington from LymmTeamGB went into action on Lake Dorney this morning as the second fastest boat of the heats and were determined to get off to a strong start.

They were half a length in front by the 500m mark and held that until around 100m to go when Canada and Netherlands inched away at the deficit but Egington and company were roared home by a 30,000 crowd at Eton Dorney and were able to hold on and win in 5:26.85.

Wednesday's final is scheduled to start at 10.30am.

Special Delivery

Lymm Ladies Circle

Lymm Ladies Circle recently made a delivery to a special local little girl named Charlotte.

Charlotte has been receiving treatment for Osteosarcoma which has meant she has spent long periods in hospital and time away from her friends at school. Thankfully, Charlotte is now recovering at home, and Lymm Ladies decided to have a swing installed in her garden to play on with her friends whilst she continues her recovery.

Charlotte on Her New Swing

Charlotte took charge of the new swing she had been eagerly waiting for. She is shown trying it out with Cathy, who spent many "women hours" tracking down the gift!

Lymm Ladies arrange charity and social events locally, both as a group, and as individuals when there is something of specific interest to one or two ladies.

Lymm Ladies regularly meet for social and local village events. They have a healthy following and are always looking for new members. If you would like to know more either visit their website or email them.

Nine year old Georgia Hull's Recovery From Brain Tumour

Seeing your nine-year-old child diagnosed with a brain tumour is every parent’s worst nightmare.

Three years on Georgia Hull is a normal year seven pupil at Lymm High School looking forward to the summer holidays and mum Liz is a relieved parent wanting to give something back to the Macmillan nurses who helped her family. Georgia was diagnosed with the cancer in May 2009 and spent five months in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

Liz, a former book keeper, said: "She was so poorly at the time. To hear your child has cancer is the last thing you expect to be told, but the Macmillan nurses were so kind and helpful."

Helen was assigned to the family, which includes brother Alex, aged 13, and dad Chris, a finance director, and she soon termed them "Team Hull".

"They have been there for other people and no doubt answered the same questions we had. Like how could we tell Alex and what happens next," she added.

Georgia has just finished her first year at Lymm High School and completed a Race for Life in Birkenhead last week. Liz said: "She is a normal girl now which has been such a relief. She goes to Guides and loves arts and crafts."

As a thank you to Macmillan, Liz is now involved with volunteering and is promoting the charity’s sponsored walk at Lymm Rugby Club on Sunday, August 5. She will be helping with registration while the rest of the family take part in the walk. There are 10-mile or two-mile walks and you can take children and dogs on a lead.

For details visit Cheshire Walk section of the MacMillan website.
