Remembrance Day 2011

World War I officially ended on the eleventh hour on the eleventh day on the eleventh month, 1918 - Armistice Day. The act of remembrance, a Two Minute Silence, began on the anniversary of Armistice Day in 1919. At 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month of 2011, the nation paused to remember the fallen. Lymm was no exception. The village centre came to a stand still as businesses closed and local residents, one and all, paid their respects with Two Minutes Silence.

Sunday morning saw a fantastic turn out of people wanting to pay their respect. Led by members of Lymm & District Royal British Legion the procession left Davies Way car park on its way to the recently cleaned Lymm War Memorial at St Marys Church. With everyone deep in their own personal thoughts a Remembrance Day Service was held before everyone returned to the Lymm Royal British Legion where memories were shared and stories were told. The whole event was captured on camera by Joanne Bolton (a very keen amateur photographer) with some absolutely stunning photographs. Thank you Joanne for kindly sharing your wonderful images for all to see (please keep them coming). The afternoon slowly drew to a close with everyone enjoying a buffet courtesy of

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, We will remember them."
