Egerton Group Women's Institute Hosts Calendar Girls Event at Lymm High School
On Saturday, 10 April, which was a lovely sunny Spring day, over 150 ladies gathered together with some excitement at Lymm High School to see and listen to three of the “original Calendar Girls”.
The ladies were not disappointed. The Calendar Girls, which included Angela whose husband’s death was the reason they made the calendar, spoke for almost an hour and their talk was both interesting and very amusing.
The event was organised by Egerton Group WI which consists of five WI’s in the Lymm, Thelwall and High Legh area. Linda Cram, Egerton Group Co-ordinator and Liz Wellbelove, President of Heatley WI co-hosted the event and the sum of £500 was also donated to Leukemia Research.
The Women’s Institute is the largest women’s organisation in the UK and they celebrated their 90th anniversary in 2005. You can join your local WI by contacting your local group or by contacting the Women's Institute for more information.

2010 Lymm & District Round Table Duck Race
The Easter Monday of the 2010 Lymm Duck Race dawned a little cloudy, but this wasn’t enough to put off enthusiastic Duck Race entrants who came to Lymm in their hundreds to take part in the annual Lymm & District Round Table Duck Race today.
Delayed but not dampened
The start of the race was slightly delayed but this didn’t dampen the spirits of the duck racers who cheered the ducks on down the Dingle. The brave yellow ducks needed a little help towards the finishing line, but finally three little ducks made it!
The winning numbers were:
- 1st Prize of £100 – duck 533
- 2nd Prize of £50 – duck 514
- 3rd Prize of £25 – duck 580
Lymm & District Round Table sold in excess of 3,600 ducks this year to raise money for charities which will include the Shannon Boam Appeal, St John’s Ambulance (who provided assistance at this year’s Duck Race)and the Oughtrington Community Hall Roof Appeal amongst others.
The Lymm Ladies Circle also sold in excess of 380 balloons, all of which were set free today, to raise funds for charities including Rethink, the leading national mental health membership charity, the Lymm Youth Club and the Petty Pool Trust.
